Laparoscopic hysterectomy
Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy and Laparoscopic Total Hysterectomy are minimally invasive techniques to remove the uterus. The Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy or LSH is a hysterectomy performed through the laparoscope in which the cervix is left in place. A Laparoscopic Total Hysterectomy or LTH removes the cervix. The laparoscopic approach to hysterectomy allows the patient to return to normal activities very rapidly, in some cases sooner than one week. This is an advanced procedure which our doctors have been performing since 2004. Relatively few surgeons are trained or experienced in these procedures. Endometrial ablation
As with the laparoscopic hysterectomy, recent advances in technology have greatly increased the options available to you for the treatment of a variety of gynecologic conditions. Endometrial ablation is one such example. This minimally invasive outpatient technique destroys the lining of the uterus. This procedure is used to treat heavy menstrual periods. After this procedure 60% of women no longer have a menstrual period and at least 90% of women are very happy with the significant reduction in flow. This procedure helps many women avoid a hysterectomy.
Obstetrics
St. Vincent's Hospital is a wonderful place to have a baby. The facilities are impressive and the care is superb. The practice of Doctors Sharp, Stone and Goolsby enhances the pregnancy experience by providing a relatively intimate setting for prenatal care. We emphasize developing a strong relationship with your primary obstetrician. This helps in guiding the mother and baby through the sometimes complicated experience prenatal care. We have set up a somewhat unique on-call arrangement that results in most of our deliveries being into the hands of the primary obstetrician. Our patients and doctors both seem to like this way.
